The NWPSAF supports one One-Dimensional Variational Analysis (1D-Var) package:
The NWPSAF 1D-Var retrieves physical parameters from satellite instrument data, from a range of instruments, by using a first guess taken from an NWP model.

The NWPSAF 1D-Var is the result of merging the capabilities of three previously developed 1D-Var packages:
The NWPSAF still offers limited support to existing users of these packages but all users are encouraged to migrate to using the NWPSAF 1D-Var as support for these packages will be discontinued in the near future.
