Legend for rejection plots

  • 1:Ob not processed at all:
  • 2:No coeffs available for satellite:
  • 3:Unusable scan position: Flags the last 2 scan positions on each side of the swarth.
  • 4:Raw BT outside acceptable limits: observed brightness temperature must lie within 90 and 340K.
  • 5:Bad predictors for extrapolation:
  • 6:No channels for retrieval:
  • 7:Background BT outside acceptable limits: Checks that observed - background brightness temperature is < 20K.
  • 8:Bad predictors for bias correction:
  • 9:Background outside acceptable limits: observed brightness temperature must lie within 90 and 340K.
  • 10:Retrieval failed to converge: The iteration to solvethe 1DVAR cost function cannot be minimised in less than 7 iterations.
  • 11:Surface elevation too high: altitude > 1000m, under strict QC we do not use this data.
  • 12:Retrieval BT outside acceptable limits: The observed - retrieved brightness temperature difference was > than 4 times the combined observation forward model error.
  • 13:Error in forward model: > RTTOV-5 has quality control information which says when the calculation maybe unreliable. For a reference see Saunders, R. W., Matricardi, M.,and Brunel, P. An improved fast radiative transfer model for assimilation of satellite radiance observations. Q.J. Royal Meteorological Soc., 125, 1407-1426.
  • 14:Error in gradient calculation:
  • 15:ATOVPP scan flag:
  • 16:ATOVPP preprocessor flag:
  • 17:Not a flag:
