Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometer

AIRS, the Atmospheric Infrared Sounder, is a high spectral resolution, cross-track infrared sounder. It is mounted on the Aqua satellite, which was launched 4 May 2002. It has 2378 channels measuring the range 3.75 to 15.4 microns. 324 of these channels are stored in a database at the Met Office (the MetDB) for use in data assimilation.
